Jared Holt is a photographer and writer whose work has been showcased by museums, featured in national news publications, and incorporated into top-tier corporate and nonprofit communications. He is based in Chicago, Illinois.
His approach rejects trends in client-facing photography to instead seek the deeper, authentic essences of the subjects he photographs. Observation and storytelling is an integral part of Holt’s DNA, and they are practices that guide his photography to date.
Holt was drawn to photography at a young age. Growing up, he worked on his schools’ yearbooks and newspapers as a self-appointed photo nerd. By the time he graduated as a journalism major at the University of Central Arkansas, he won several awards and honors for design, photography, and writing. In college, Holt contributed to the “Abandoned Arkansas” project as led by Michael Schwartz. On weekends, Holt would join Schwartz, and sometimes others, to travel to abandoned structures in the state and document them before nature and time erased the history within their walls. After school, Holt incorporated his photography into his work as a professional journalist, and he contributed many of his photos to Creative Commons databases like WikiMedia.
Today, Holt takes private clients as a freelance photographer alongside his full time work as a reporter and researcher. He works with clients to tailor his approach to strike sweet spots between his independent vision and clients’ needs. He is currently available for the following coverage:
